What to review
- Liability for injury or damage to others
- Damage to your vehicle if you choose that protection
- Limits, deductibles and listed drivers
What protection do you need beyond the minimum?
To register a vehicle in Florida, drivers generally need at least $10,000 in personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 in property damage liability (PDL). PIP addresses certain covered injury expenses; PDL addresses damage you cause to someone else's property. These minimums do not mean your own car is protected against a crash or theft.
To review damage to your vehicle, ask about collision and comprehensive coverage. Compare deductibles, liability for injuries to others, listed drivers and how the car is used. Availability and limits depend on the insurer and your circumstances.
Before requesting information
Have general details about the vehicle and its drivers ready. Our initial form asks for essentials and makes the VIN optional. Do not send licenses or sensitive documents through that form.
